The RAF Inter Command and Individual Championships were held at Hawley and Hornley Common on 7 October 2001.  This area is an army training range consisting of mixed undulating runnable forests and open land.  Unfortunatley, the weather men conspired to make the weather worthy of the Outer Hebrides, as highlighted by the following words from our friendly fixtures secretary.

'Now that the results sheets have dried sufficiently after the downpour of Sunday, I have been able to decipher the jottings I understood were once the announced results from the finest Inter-Command Championships I have witnessed.

Buck Rodgers had to resort to a team talk prior to the racing as he was cr__ping himself that Strike were about to be white washed by the mighty PTC team ably assembled by Tony Green.  The team talk must have worked as Strike Men won by the closest of margins, well done.  PTC Ladies won a well-deserved team event, but the performance of the day came from 2 of our youngest runners, brother and sister Geoff and Rachel Ellis.  They both ran their socks off and won by a margin of over 7 minutes each.  If only we could attract further young members into our sport then we wouldn't have to rely on the likes of our chairman to be included in the RAF Inter-Services Team; who then goes on to make the Combined-Services Team'.
