| RAFO v Police Challenge 2002 |
This years RAFO v Police Challenge was held during the International Police Event in Warwickshire on the 3rd and 4th Apr 2002. Day 1 consisted of a short course and relay event, whilst the main classic event was held on day 2.
The Challenge was for the quickest time for the first six men and two ladies on the M21 and W21 courses. RAFO won this year with total time of 511min 39secs and the Police runner up time of 588min 42secs.

Well done to everybody. I offer the following comments from Pete Wood; no other person can summarise an event in quite the same way:
"Hey whipping boy, any chance of getting a RAF Team together to compete against
the Police in the annual competition". Why oh why do I not admit it, it's easier just competing!
Unlike most competitions against the Police, this years was organised around their
International Trotter Event, attracting teams from allover Europe with an aversion to
nick you for speeding if you had the audacity to overtake them in the forest. Only
joking stupid. . . . . . Unfortunately this meant we did not have the comfort of
having 70 or 80 runners to take them on at one of our RAFO Championships. 8 boys and 3 girls
were selected/volunteered.

In the morning of 3rd April a short event was held in Hay Wood, near Kennilworth in
Warwickshire. In the afternoon a relay event was organised in Leek Wooton. The main event was on the morning of 4th Apr at Bentley Woods.
What happened? We gave the Police a right good drubbin'. Hoo Rah. Enough of the Orienteering. We stayed overnight at Cosford and did a bit of partying
in Albrighton. What was learnt? We must attempt to get the RAF team together more often, not just the night before the Inter-Services. It certainly builds team
morale, which was evident the following day when everyone performed very well, especially
Geoff Ellis who was within spitting distance of a very useful Swede who ran away with the M21L at the JK the previous weekend.
Thanks must go to Andy Berne of the Police Athletic Association who, together with
members of Octavian Droobers, put on 3 events without a hitch in beautiful weather;
he had previously threatened to nick all the weather forecasters if they did not provide
good weather. The power of the Old Bill. But they're crap at orienteering.
