Who can join RAFO?

RAFO is a closed club - a closed club is based on an institution which does not have outside members - and membership is restricted to serving Royal Air Force personnel, their dependants, and ex-service personnel who have served in the RAF.

If you wish to have a go at Orienteering, you should contact your Station or Unit rep, called 'OIC Orienteering'. A full list of current reps is available in the Contacts area.

How much will it cost?

2010 Fees: Membership of the RAF Orienteering Asssociation and RAFO is still free, but to compete in events registered with BO (British Orienteering) you have to join BO as a Local Senior Member of RAFO (£7.75 per year) for local events or as a National Senior Member (£20.75 per year) for the larger Regional or National Events such as the British Champs.

BOF membership runs from 1 Jan to 31 Dec.  There is no membership fee for RAFO, although you are advised to be a paid up BO member and have RAFO registered as your primary club..

How to join

Join BO + RAFO. You can become a member of RAFO either via the British Orienteering Federation (BO), the sport's governing body, or as a RAFO local club only member.  The BO membership application specific to HM Armed Forces is here.

Join RAFO only.  Click HERE to download a copy of the membership application form if you wish to join RAFO. This form is in Adobe Acrobat format, so you'll need the free reader if you don't already have it on your PC.

Any new member of BOF who wishes to join after 1st Sep 2009 can have 16 months membership provided they pay the appropriate 2010 fees.  Local members get the first year free if they have never been a member of a club or British Orienteering.

Benefits

Membership of RAFO entitles you to bid for Travel Authority to your selected fixtures from the approved fixtures list.  This will ensure you are able to obtain MT or reclaim your mileage costs. View the current fixtures list here.
