Station OIC's Kit

How to promote the sport of orienteering on your Station.

Suggestions on how to get the word out about orienteering on your Unit

  • Put a plug on Stn intranet scrolling news
  • Put an insert in SROs
  • Write an article for your Stn sports bulletin and glossy magazine
  • Email everyone on my 'I am interested' list and follow up with a phonecall
  • Put a notice up at the entrance to our main building
  • Add it to the Station Calendar
  • Add a fixture to the RAFO.org.uk calendar
  • Put up a poster in the Gym, crew bars, messes, accommodation
  • Send out a once-off authorised email to everyone on the station with a straightforward plug and voting buttons for them to tell you if they have any experience or are interested.

How to plug participation at events your club (or individual orienteer) has attended

  • Write an event report for the PEd Flt and Sqn OCs/Wg/Stn OC to let them know how the troops got on and ensure their continued support, and visibility of your participation.
  • Submit fixture reports for the monthly sports bulletin
  • Write regular articles for the Station glossy magazine.
  • Send an email to participants with their results

Examples of good practice are included below:

RAF Kinloss (Buck Rodgers) used photographs from a event to put together an A4 poster for display around unit, and online, showing station personnel engaged in the CO's Cup, orienteering on the station map.
