RAF ORIENTEERING ASSOCIATION TOUR 2010 : VENICE  (13 - 14 NOV 10) 

 RAFO completes an annual tour, or expedition, to enable RAFO members at all ranks and levels of the sport to experience the orienteering terrain and competition in a variety of destinations.

RAFO is once again giving you the opportunity to sample orienteering at its most exhilarating, in a fabulous location to boot! The next expedition planned is going to be to Venice for the weekend 13 – 14 Nov 10 for a civilised weekend of street or sprint ‘O’. The exped will be open to all RAFO members and partners, however priority will be given to those people holding the maximum Sports Lottery ticket holding so as to qualify for a subsidy from the Sports Board. Those holding less than 3 tickets will not qualify for that subsidy. 

Although this will be a huge and well-attended competition, you do not need to be an experienced orienteer to successfully complete the races and thoroughly enjoy this event.   Event and entry details will be published later in the year, but here is a link to one of the maps from last year’s Venice event to whet your appetite:

There are 13 subsidised places available on the tour, and the plan is to fly out on Friday 12 Nov, compete in the Park ‘O’ on the Saturday afternoon and the main event on Sunday. Flights returning to the UK are planned for the Sunday evening.

I am currently working on a figure of £170 including entry fees, before any Sports Board subsidy is applied.  The earlier we can book air fares the cheaper they will be and I am hoping to get a firm commitment (including money!) from those wishing to go no later than the end of May – with thousands of Orienteers due to descend on the city, accommodation is disappearing fast!.
